Bumblebees get covered in pollen

Red Begonia in bloom with White Petunias and Lobelia erinus

A combination that really requires separate planters.

Mixing Red Begonias, White Petunias, and Lobelia erinus creates a classic, patriotic “red, white, and blue” display, However, to keep this combination thriving, you must balance their contrasting light and watering needs. Getting the right lighting is the trickiest part of this trio. Petunias thrive in full, direct sun, while traditional begonias and lobelia prefer shadier, cooler spots.
Place the planter in an area that gets morning sun and afternoon shade. This gives your petunias the light they need while protecting the begonias and lobelia from scorching and wilting during the hottest part of the day.
Lobelia erinus and begonias both require consistently moist (but not waterlogged) soil. Since petunias are heavy drinkers, the soil will likely dry out quickly. Check your planters daily and water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry.
